Why Roll-Fed Inkjet? Why SCREEN?

Why Roll-Fed Inkjet?
Why SCREEN?

Printers are now off-loading their web and sheetfed presses for more efficient, productive, high-quality roll-fed inkjet. What is it about this technology that makes printers ultimately commit to it and never turn back?

Quality Alone Loses. Value, Turn-Time and Flexibility with Quality Wins Business.

Buyers still need great quality, but print sourcing is no longer determined on quality alone. One’s ability to produce print efficiently with speed, flexibility and great quality is what brings value to understaffed and over-pressured buyers.

Who Runs Your Business? You or Your Press Operator?

Experienced hands are retiring. It’s significantly easier to find and train employees for high-speed inkjet than it ever will be for offset. SCREEN technology is so automated, a single operator frequently runs more than one press.

Agile Production & Advanced Personalization

One production process means fewer steps, less chance for error and more flexibility. Full-color personalization means your customer’s creativity is what drives the job. SCREEN’s high-speed inkjet solutions allow for short- to mid-run static jobs, book of one work and highly personalized direct mail campaigns while preventing excessive waste and avoiding costly overruns.

Multiple Finishing Touchpoints? You’re Finished!

What’s your WIP look like? Too much Work-In-Process is a killer for you to get work out the door, meet deadlines, drive out costs and preserve your bottom line. SCREEN high-speed roll-fed inkjet enables digital finishing solutions that require multiple stages to be streamlined into one collaborative operation, driving touch points out of production.

No Treatment, No Problem.

For more than 100 years, paper didn’t need inkjet treatment. Why start now? SCREEN roll-fed inkjet presses don’t require paper with an inkjet treatment. Inkjet treatment chemistry not only adds costs, it softens and dulls the surface of the paper, complicating the downstream process.

More Revenue, Fewer Employees.

SCREEN roll-fed inkjet automation increases revenue per employee. Jobs previously requiring multiple employees across different departments are now completed by one employee collapsing multiple steps into one smooth process. SCREEN inkjet press owners produce a wider range of work more efficiently at lower costs.

New Products: Truepress JET 520NX AD

SCREEN GA launched the Truepress JET 520NX AD in January 2025 and unveiled the high-speed inkjet technology at Hunkeler Innovationdays in Lucerne, Switzerland, in February. The press reaches speeds up to 225 meters per minute.

The Truepress JET 520NX has had worldwide success since its launch in 2017. It continues to serve many transactional printers and direct mail marketers who value variable capabilities. The press also allowed the publishing industry to shift to a print-on-demand business model.

High-density, water-based pigment inks have been specially developed for the Truepress JET 520NX AD. The technology also supports SCREEN JetInspection, an instrument designed to detect errors during print production.

SCREEN Americas sponsored the annual Inkjet Summit in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, April 14–16, 2025, where several SCREEN customers participated in the summit’s panels including Kim Kunimoto of Weekley’s Mailing Service, Berea, Ohio; Eric Kahn of Graphic Village, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Melissa Mayotte of MOSAIC, Cheverly, Maryland.

Breakout sessions were busy for the SCREEN team as they met one-on-one with attendees looking to optimize their inkjet solutions for their high-speed commercial, direct mail, publishing, transactional, label and packaging applications.

Hulco Printers Inc., Scott, Louisiana

Label & Packaging SCREEN Technology Heats Up Local Economy

Hulco Printers Inc. of Scott, Louisiana, installed the Truepress Jet L350UV in November 2024.

The press led the full-service printer to expand its label business and improve the local economy. Scott, just west of Lafayette, is the home of Cajun cooking—a culinary delight requiring bottles of sauces and seasonings.

Owner Obie Hulin took a show-and-tell approach to local businesses by putting a label made with the L350UV on a bottle and showing his prospects what their product could look like. His business approach worked; his client base grew and label production now accounts for 40% of the company’s overall print production.

KC Book Manufacturing, Kansas City, Missouri

Book Printer Off-loads Entire Offset Fleet with Truepress JET 520HD mono

KC Book Manufacturing, Kansas City, Missouri, recently increased its capacity with the installation of the Truepress JET 520HD mono. The press is now assuming 70% of the company’s production of short-run jobs for small- to mid-size publishers in the softcover market.

With the recent retirement of three skilled operators, the company needed a press that could easily be operated by one person. The installation led the book manufacturer to eliminate all its conventional offset equipment. What didn’t need to be discarded, however, was the web press’s leftover paper stock, which will have a new home on the Truepress JET 520HD mono.
